Weekly Briefing No. 16

395 Words | (1) Survey for Actual Need and Practical Solutions, (2) Tea for Two and Innovation for You, and (3) No Boomers Allowed in the Special Task Force

Launch a Listening Tour…and Learn

Innovation: Survey to uncover new ways to serve.

Desired Outcome: To serve people in the best manner possible.

When was the last time you surveyed the people you serve? Consider surveying them at the point of service or immediately afterwards. By simply asking a sincere open ended question, you will be amazed at how much feedback you will receive. Start with a general question and follow up their answer with another more specific question following their lead. If you cannot deliver the survey in-person, ask the recipient their preferred method of communication and follow up accordingly.

Coffee with Other Leaders in Your Community

Innovation: Expand your opportunities by knowing your community better.

Desired Outcome: Creating opportunities by building relationship first.

Invite a leader that you do not know or know well to coffee to learn more about them and their church, ministry or Christian business. Truthfully, wouldn’t you fall off your chair if you received a call like that? That’s innovation in itself, isn’t it? By learning more about them, you may be able to uncover opportunities for them, people they need to know or maybe you’ll even discover ways to work together. In most cases, the other leader will  want to know more about you and your work as well. Worse case, you had a coffee break.

Need Something Done… Ask a Millennial

Innovation: Engage youth, energy and a new approach into your problem solving.

Desired Outcome: Create a new solution to an old problem.

Form a special working group of Millennials to create or re-engineer a solution to a real need. For maximum creativity and enjoyment, limit the budget and tell your group members that direct service is required. Since hospitality and service are their love languages of giving, they will be both excited and contented. To optimize the outcome, give them the assignment to name the project and decide on organizational hierarchy. Simply add water and watch something unexpected grow!
